Mohave Ground Squirrel Workshop
16-17 April, 2005
Ridgecrest, California

The Mohave Ground Squirrel (Spermophilus mohavensis) is listed as Threatened by the State of California and is a key species covered under the West Mojave Plan. More than 70 biologists participated in a two-day workshop featuring presentations by Dr. Phil Leitner, Dr. John Harris, and other recognized experts. Participants learned about ecology, behavior, vegetation preferences, habitat evaluation, genetics and status of this species. The half-day field trip included disscussions and demonstrations of techniques, vegetation communities and more. Most important, every single field trip participant was able to see at least one MGS in the wild!

This workshop was a great success, and planning is already in progress for a repeat in spring 2007. We'd like to thank our sponsors for their part in our success: ECorp Consulting, Romero Enterprises, Environmental Science Associates, HT Harvey and Associates, Thomas Leslie Corporation and Eremico Biological Consulting. And we'd especially like to thank Phil Leitner, John Harris, Tony Recht, Kayce Bell, Kathy Buescher-Simon, Mark Hagan, and Jeff Aardahl for their contribution to the success of this event!
