Meeting time will be from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm for class room instruction and 1:00 pm to 5:00
pm for the field trip. Directions to workshop locations will be provided with confirmation emails.
Workshop description: The goal of this workshop is to help biologists identify willow flycatchers
(Empidonax trailli), their habitat within the north coast region and provide a working knowledge
of the survey protocol. This workshop has been designed with two parts. The first part will
consist of presentations of scientists and local biologist familiar with willow flycatcher
identification, habitat and protocol. In addition, speakers and attendees will discuss the possible
effects of land management activities that might affect known and potential habitat. During the
second part of the workshop, participants will visit a field site and talk about the habitat
characteristics, the protocol and then break up into groups to set up and conduct a survey.
Intended audience: Wildlife biologists, students, land managers, and members of regulating
agencies
Lunches will be provided. Carpooling to field site will be coordinated for the field instruction.
Be prepared for sun, fog, wind, ticks and high grass.
The registration deadline is September 9, 2005. Participation for the field portion is limited to 24 participants. Registration is on first come-first serve basis. Please contact Denise Walker-
Brown or Ahmed Soliman if you were unable to register before the deadline and would like to
attend. In the event that desired attendance exceeds allotted spots, or we do not have a minimum
of 24 paid participants, registration checks will be returned by mail to registrants we were unable
to accommodate.
